Book Review: Sticks and Stones by Shawn McGuire

Sticks and Stones (The Wish Makers, #1)Sticks and Stones by Shawn McGuire

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of Sticks and Stones and I cannot wait for the rest of this series!

You’d think Mandy would be elated on the eve of her sixteenth birthday, but she’s miserable. Her friends are pulling away and she feels like she’ll never catch the eye of her forever-crush, Ethan. Alone and feeling totally hopeless for something to change, she makes a wish…

… and it is granted.

Desiree, a “wish mistress” with a bus-load of her own baggage, brings Mandy’s childhood imaginary friend to life. Lexi’s sixteen, too. And for a while it seems all is right in Mandy’s world.

But it turns out that Mandy’s wish isn’t that simple. It’s part of a personal journey that she must see to the end. Getting to the end means Mandy won’t need Lexi anymore. Trouble is, Lexi doesn’t want to be sent back to oblivion. She likes it here and she’s going to stop at nothing to make sure she gets to stay.

An exciting and tense story with great characters (and a gorgeous cover!).
