Oh, hello.

Interesting what four children on summer break can do to a nice tidy routine. But, I digress.

As meager as the time has been where I am able to work on my revision, I continue to be toiling away at Draft #7 of THE EXPATRIATES. I am working with an editor for this class I am taking and we’re in the midst of the first 1/3 of my book and I just got back her notes on my revision. You know, that revision. The one in which I kicked novel ass?  The one where I felt it *finally* got my story nestled snug inside that elusive notch of fabulousness?  Yes, that draft. The first Third of Number Seven.

So, I saw the email come through on my phone.  I raced home.  I decided to savor the moment and made a cup of tea. I sat and prepared to bask in the glow of the accolades that were about to shine from my monitor. I clicked to open her notes and held my breath as MS Word loaded and displayed her feedback before my eyeballs.  Squee…

There was this:

Which turned into this:

And then this:

She tore it to shreds.   (un-squee)

I am just glad that this class is done via email. And that’s all I have to say about that.

What’s worse, all her advice was absolutely on the money.  And so, I sit here before you a humbled pile of suckery. My friend and CP (if I ever get the nerve to share my writing again) Ani talks about The Vortex of Suckery and how it has this amazing pull. The thing about The VoS is that when you allow yourself to go there, you need a good talking through to get out of that place of e-vil.  And yes, it is E-VIL.

I am back to the white board, and going to start re-building some of the troubled spots of story with the plotting tools I was given during my Workshop of Amazing with Lenore Hart and six of the most incredible writerly friends evar back in June.

May the Force be with me.

But for now, I just need a tissue.
